Welcome nv0u. Thanks for contributing!!. Please feel free to email or leave a comment if you have any questions.
Hey Serah! Welcome to Folding@Home community. Please feel free to comment in this blog or communicate in meebo.
One of our members neVenCLJ has been experiencing FAH client restarting at 0% for both the Windows GUI and Console client. I can imagine his frustration over it when it happened more than one occasion. I would be very frustrated if I see my work 94% complete and have to start from 0%. This is hours of lost work and wasted energy usage. The reason for the client restarting at 0% is due to corrupted checkpoints. Checkpoints can be corrupted due to improper shutdown of the client and this can be due to power blackouts for example. Although one can argue that the client should not be improperly shutdown, it is no justification to corrupting a checkpoint. In my view, the current implementation of the FAH client causes checkpoint corruption way too easily.
The FAH Defence has been included with an auto backup/restore checkpoint feature. The new FAH Defence also works for FAH504-console.exe console client. The current FAH Defence only works for single client in a single computer. For those people who have multi-core CPU running more than 1 FAH client, they MUST NOT use the FAH Defence.
There are currently 2 FAH Defence executables. One for WinSMP and the other for FAH504-console. The next release will only have 1 executable.
Comments on how to improve the FAH Defence is welcomed. The FAH Defence is constantly being improved albeit at a very slow pace because I do have a fulltime job
Instructions on how to use the FAH Defence can be found here. The instructions are for WinSMP client but the only difference with the console client is that the FAH Defence does not prompt for a password.
The FAH Defence executables can be found in the 2 links below. There is only 1 executable now. Please download from “3rd Party Programs” section in the left column of this webpage.

This morning GMT+10, I noticed we have a new member folding under the username “PS3″. There are many folders using PS3 to fold and there are too many teams that have a PS3 user in their team now. I don’t have PS3 myself so I can only guess what is happening. I think the default name that Sony uses to fold is “PS3″. This can be changed by the user when setting up the PS3 folding client but maybe people just turn it on to try out folding using the default username. Maybe someone with a PS3 can comment on this?
The other thing that might be happening is someone is using a PS3 to randomly fold under different teams and changing teams every so often. What this does is, it creates the PS3 user in most if not all the teams in Folding@Home
. It might be cool to have “PS3″ username in all teams.
Anyway, new members are welcomed
. Please feel free to drop us a comment or two.
OK. We are now officially in the top 2000 folding teams out of 70000+. This is a great milestone. By achieving this milestone, our team statistics can now also be found in the Folding Extreme Overclocking website because they only keep statistics for the top 2000 teams.
Thanks to all our folding members
. It’s great achievement considering we’ve only folded as a team for 6 months.
Next milestone will be top 1000.
Recruited one more fella to join us!
We have recently recruited 5 new members!!! Once a work unit has been submitted by each of them, we will update our Team Member accordingly.
WELCOME WELCOME!
A new cancer therapy developed by 2 Australian scientists have shown encouraging results in the labs. This therapy only targets cancer cells hence will have very much less side effects on the patient. Hopefully they can commence human trials by end of this year.
Well done to all the people there doing this fantastic job. Keep up the good work and hopefully we’ll have an effective way of killing cancer cells!!!
Please visit their website EnGeneIC for more information.
For a video on their history and how all this started, you can go to the Australian Story
We have a new memberrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Do you want to help to make a research to understand protein folding, misfolding, and related diseases a success? You can help by simply running a piece of software -Folding@Home- a distributed computing project. People from through out the world download and run software to band together to make one of the largest supercomputers in the world. Every computer makes the project closer to our goals. Folding@Home uses novel computational methods coupled to distributed computing, to simulate problems thousands to millions of times more challenging than previously achieved.
For all you guys and gals reading this blog, go visit Stanford University and download the client for your PC. Your PC is ideal for folding if you leave your computer idle for long periods (eg. torrent downloads). When your PC is folding, it only uses your CPU power and does not affect any torrent downloads.
If you have a single core CPU, download the Windows 2000/XP/Vista Graphical client.
Be sure to configure the client so that you are in the correct team number 68238.
If you have a dual core CPU (eg. AMD X2 or Intel Core2Duo), download the Windows 2000/XP/Vista SMP client console version.
Follow the prompts when you start up the console client and enter 68238 for [Team Number] question.
Email ekhlai@yahoo.com if you have any problems.
REMEMBER!!! You might be one of them who has these diseases one day. So, start folding and help find a cure for cancer now!!!
